SSAB has joined DIMECC’s FAME ecosystem with a strong interest in applying additive manufacturing (AM) to maintenance and lifecycle services. The collaboration focuses on exploring how AM can be used to reduce downtime, increase equipment availability, and support more flexible and resilient maintenance practices across industrial environments.

SSAB is a global leader in special and premium steels, redefining the future of steel and leading the transformation of the steel industry. In addition to maintenance-focused AM applications, SSAB brings strong expertise in fossil-free and CO₂-reduced materials, including CO₂-free metal powders for additive manufacturing. Within the FAME ecosystem, SSAB is interested in jointly developing and validating new use cases for these advanced materials.

Through its participation in FAME, SSAB aims to deepen its understanding of additive manufacturing as a practical and scalable tool that complements traditional manufacturing and supply models.

”Joining FAME is a powerful step forward as we deepen our collaboration and advance our capabilities in additive manufacturing. This ecosystem connects us with industry frontrunners, accelerating the adoption of AM in Nordics and beyond. I’m excited to contribute our steel expertise and gain new insights that help shape the future of manufacturing”, says Jesper Vang, Head of Powder Technology at SSAB.

From the ecosystem perspective, SSAB’s role is particularly valuable as an industrial player that actively seeks to apply AM in real maintenance environments. This creates concrete learning opportunities for the entire FAME community and helps members build a deeper understanding of where and how AM delivers value in different maintenance scenarios.

“It is great to welcome SSAB to the FAME ecosystem. Having a strong industrial player that is committed to utilizing additive manufacturing in maintenance is extremely important. Through SSAB’s use cases, FAME members gain valuable insight into practical applications, challenges, and benefits of AM in real-world maintenance contexts,” says Eetu Holstein, Senior Ecosystem Lead.
