Mika Takalo

Development Engineer

Kongsberg Maritime Finland Oy

I work as a mechanical design and development engineer at Kongsberg Maritime Finland, Rauma. I´ve been involved in guiding bachelors and master’s thesis related to additive manufacturing (AM) technology at Kongsberg Maritime Finland. I heard about “rapid prototyping” back in the day during my studies, but I never really got into it until now. After my own bachelor’s and master’s degrees and more than 20 years of 3D CAD usage, being part in this kind of new manufacturing methods research and development is very interesting and challenging for me. Our predecessors experienced the transition from mechanical drawing boards on to PC monitors. Now our generation is experiencing the manufacturing transition from “lathe” to 3D-printer. Technical drawings and manufacturing are always tightly related together and on mechanical design departments we need to always be up to date with modern technologies. That’s why I’m here.
