Background
FAME Campus will be a core initiative of the FAME ecosystem focused on advancing additive manufacturing (AM) capabilities in Finland. Located within Wärtsilä’s Sustainable Technology Hub (STH) in Vaasa, Finland, the Campus will be led and coordinated by DIMECC.
As a key element in the FAME learning path and a practical platform supporting the FAME Academy training portfolio, the FAME Campus provides members with a hands-on environment to conduct metal AM trials, build competencies, co-learn, and exchange knowledge.
Activities at the FAME Campus will include:
• Introductory hands-on trials and AM workflows for beginners
• Technical education and training programs
• Printing of showcases and demonstrators
• R&D-oriented printing and experimentation
The goal of the FAME Campus is to widen the adoption of AM technologies and foster new business opportunities. All FAME ecosystem partner members will automatically become FAME Campus members and are expected to actively engage in its activities. Additionally, external parties may access Campus services to support broader national and international uptake of additive manufacturing.
📅 The FAME Campus will operate during the period: 1.1.2026 – 31.12.2027.
Description of tasks, minimum requirements
We are currently exploring options for operator resources (several types of roles, see below) to support the day-to-day activities of the FAME Campus. This includes operating the EOS M290 with Smart Fusion metal AM machine, preparing print jobs, and coordinating practical workflows.
DIMECC coordinates the activities of the Campus and offers interested FAME companies / organizations the opportunity to provide their expertise and services for the Campus operations. The work is part-time and preferably based on hourly billing. Other arrangements and adjustments are also possible.
Operator expert
Primarily, we are requesting a quotation for an operator–expert role based on hourly billing or a part-time contract. The operator–expert will be responsible for leading and coordinating the practical execution of the FAME Campus printing tasks in collaboration with DIMECC, operating a medium-sized metal laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) machine (EOS M290 + Smart Fusion) and the necessary post-processing equipment, preparing print jobs, performing equipment maintenance and material changes, and, when needed, instructing students / trainees working at the Campus. In addition, the operator–expert will, when needed, organize workshops / trainings and host visits to the Campus.
If necessary, DIMECC will be responsible for providing EOS equipment training for the operator–expert, in case the person has not already completed such machine specific training. The main working language of the operator–expert is English, and the work location is in Vaasa.
EOS machine / post-processing machine operator(s) / trainee(s)
The work consists of practical operation of the EOS machine and post-processing equipment under the supervision of the operator–expert. The work is suitable for students / trainees in the later stages of their studies, and they will be provided with the necessary training. Part of the training will take place through learning by doing.
Print-file preparation and / or design expertise / expert services
In support of the operator–expert and machine operator(s), expert work may need needed especially in designing of AM parts and the preparation of print jobs. The basic idea is that the FAME Campus operates on a “one-stop-shop” principle and can provide members with case-specific support and assistance in the design and execution of prints.
