Oerlikon, a global leader in surface engineering and advanced materials, has joined the Finnish Additive Manufacturing Ecosystem (FAME).
“We are proud to join FAME and collaborate with its members to accelerate the industrialization of additive manufacturing. At Oerlikon, we combine decades of materials expertise with advanced processing technologies, and we look forward to contributing to joint innovations that will drive new applications, strengthen the ecosystem, and support customers across a range of industries.”
– Mike Ford, Business Development Manager – Additive Manufacturing, Oerlikon Surface Solutions AG
Oerlikon’s product range includes high-performance alloys such as nickel, cobalt, iron, and titanium, which are widely used across industries that rely on precision and durability. By joining FAME, Oerlikon aims to support customers in both current and future applications through its materials expertise and broad knowledge of multiple additive manufacturing processes, such as Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) and Directed Energy Deposition (DED). The collaboration will also extend to joint efforts in developing new materials and applications, contributing to research and development projects, and advancing printing and processing technologies through the Oerlikon Innovation Hub located in Garching, Germany.
Oerlikon is uniquely positioned to advance the industrialization of additive manufacturing by integrating and scaling the entire value chain from beginning to end. Its capabilities span additive manufacturing metal powders, additive component manufacturing, and advanced surface treatments such as Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD), Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD), and thermal spray coatings. These technologies enable the company to deliver customized, cutting-edge solutions to sectors including space, aerospace, defense, and semiconductors.
“It is great to have such a strong and international player within the ecosystem to further expand FAME’s extensive metal powder knowledge and to gain new insights into DED powders and coating processes. We are looking forward to collaborating on a tangible level, especially through the Oerlikon Innovation Hub located in Garching, Germany.”
