DREAMS Project Mid Results Shared in Oulu

DREAMS seminar

Around 90 additive manufacturing specialists and enthusiasts spent the afternoon at the University of Oulu or Teams listening to the DREAMS (Database for Radically Enhancing Additive Manufacturing and Standardization) project mid result sharing. The results were presented by the University of Turku, LUT University and University of Oulu FMT Research group.
The DREAMS project, is coordinated by DIMECC Oy and is the first major RDI project of FAME Ecosystem. It aims to test thousands of Additively Manufactured test specimens for creating a comprehensive material database that can be used by the Finnish industry for creating critical AM components.

Antti Salminen from the University of Turku gave a presentation titled “LBF-LB/M results on powder analysis, laser polishing and monitoring”.

Kalle Lipiäinen from LUT University presented “Quality and Local properties-based fatigue strength assessment for AM-components” and his colleague Sami Westman from LUT University presented “Monitoring of L-PBF”.

Antti Järvenpää from the University of Oulu FMT Research group shared mechanical test results and his colleague Matias Jaskari presented for example the effects of defects and residual stresses.

“The audience was very interested in finally getting new research results in the field of additive manufacturing. There has been minimum available information about metal AM material characteristics based on systematic testing and limited access to material properties database that has slowed down the companies from developing their own solutions. The importance of the DREAMS project in producing new scientific information on especially the material properties was considered significant,” says Project Manager Mrehan Elshehawy from FAME Ecosystem.

The DREAMS consortium includes Citec, Elomatic, Etteplan, Lillbacka Powerco, Patria, Raute, Vilpe, Wärtsilä, the University of Oulu, LUT University and the University of Turku. The 6 Million EUR project is funded by Business Finland and the participating companies.
